Truisms and Cynicisms
• Hardware fails because it can. Software isn't perfect because it is created by the same group of life-forms responsible for the term 'human error'.
Accept this.
• Eventually your hardware will give up and/or your software will need upgrading.
At some point you'll have to spend some money. Accept this, too.
• If it's going to happen, it'll happen after 4pm on a Friday afternoon.
Murphy's Law #1.....
• The closer the deadline, the bigger the crash.
Murphy's Law #2.....
• The more you have crammed into your hard disk, the more you will lose.
See Sod's Law #53 below.....
• Information Technology is neither an art form nor an exact science - it is an exercise in finger crossing and the prolonged holding of breath. When it works, there is a collective sigh of relief. When it doesn't, apparently it's never done that before, it was fine yesterday, no-one touched anything and it must be someone else's fault. Honest!
Either way, you should feel very special....
• Sod's Law #53: You have more chance of suffering excruciating data loss than you have of winning Lotto.
You do make multiple regular backups of all your really important stuff, don't you?
